It was possible that Elena might have been a little overeager in terms of coffee.
It wasn't necessarily the fact that it was Tyler, exactly. While she was very happy to see him, and it wasn't less because it was him, it was more the fact that it was someone who was part of that group. Who had been through what she had been through and didn't stay away completely. She had always hoped that she wouldn't be alone, stuck in Mystic Falls forever, even though at the same time, she could understand why they wouldn't want to stay. There was still a vampire problem. There were still the Founder's Council and occasionally, even one of the hybrids swung into town that needed to be taken care of.
She was still the doppelganger, and she was still leading a double life whether she wanted to or not.
But it was a lonely double life, and the idea that there was someone in town, someone who could understand, who she could talk to was something she wasn't going to let slip by. She didn't know how long Tyler was going to be here, or what his plans were, and from all she could tell, he didn't really know either. She knew that he was here for his mom, not for her, and that realization was enough to get her to slow down a bit. She took a breath, waited a few days to make the plans, and let him spend time with his mom. A few days, though, was probably all she could have waited for a chance to just be herself again.
She made the call, made plans to meet him at the cafe later, and while she was there, tried not to make it seem like she was arriving too early. Regardless of all that, however, she was excited.
It was the first time she had been excited about something in a really long time.
