The last time Wynonna saw Dean she had been very very pregnant and it had been a little awkward. Timing has never been on their side. In the time since then she gave up Alice, lost Dolls, and now she's lost both Waverly and Doc in one fell swoop and she's not the heir anymore she's a guardian and she honestly doesn't totally know what that entails.
The biblical stuff goes over her head.
But the Winchesters know this shit because they've had their share of biblical nonsense. Not to mention their angel is still alive. Poor Charlie. Or Julian, she guesses.
God she slept with Waverly's dad why is her life like this.
Anyway, Shorty's is as empty as the rest of Purgatory when Dean makes his way in, Cas in tow. "Glad you two could make it" She may be a little drunk because she's been trying to chase off her feelings with whiskey. It's not going so great.
Dean'll be the first to admit that he's surprised Wynonna called asking for help. He was even more surprised when she asked him to bring Cas. Not many people ask for the angel to come and hang out to shoot the shit. This is definitely a business talk, and when they get there and see how wasted she is, he knows for sure this is a business talk.
"What the hell happened around here?" Hehas to ask. "This place is even more of a ghost town than usual."
"The short version of the story is most of the town evacuated because Bulshar was trying to get back to the Garden of Eden and there was some major Biblical shit going down -- the curse is broken, Bulshar is dead, but the Garden took my sister -- whose dad is an angel, who I accidentally banged because he had amnesia and my life is nothing if not a comedy show -- and because I'm the guardian or whatever I couldn't go after her but Doc could and did and I have no idea how the hell I'm going to get them back. This biblical shit is not my expertise -- it's why I asked you to bring him."
She waves her bottle in Castiel's general direction.
Dean looks mostly confused as he tries to piece all of that ramble together without much success, and he looks like he's about to ask her to break it down more for him but thankfully Castiel speaks Biblical Jibberish, and is quick to pick up on what she's saying.
"Where is Julian and Juan Carlos?"
First things first, if the Garden took Waverly, a nephlim and a daughter of who he presumes is one of the two guardians of the garden, then there has to be some kind of connection there. Something went wrong with the angels.
Castiel's face sobers for a moment, because that's ... not good at all. There were so few angels left these days, that Castiel at least assumed that Juan Carlos and Julian would be safe due to the nature of the Garden and their mission.
"This isn't as simple as the Garden using your sister to take her father's place. If that were the case she wouldn't be able to enter the Garden either. Something must be wrong."
Dean shakes his head. "Something wrong in Heaven. What else is new?"
Castiel ignores him. "Where is the entrance to the Garden?"
His face softens a bit at that, because not only has the Garden stolen a bright ray of sunshine but also an American hero. There is part of him that is wondering if he manages to save Doc Holliday, does that mean they might actually become friends? But he keeps those insensitive thoughts to himself because Wynonna is still missing Waverly, and now isn't the time.
(He also knows how Wynonna feels about Doc and while that makes things a bit ... complicated on his end, but he's no good for anyone. He never has been. If anything, he wants Wynonna to be happy.)
"We'll figure it out, Wynonna," Dean says with a nod. "Show us the way, we'll get them back."
Wynonna and Doc are....complicated (is he even still a vampire? how could a vampire go into the garden? she has so many questions and no answers which is par for the course when it comes to Doc). And Wynonna has her own complicated feelings regarding Dean too but right now her main goal is getting them back -- she can figure out the rest after it.
She probably needs to also be a little more sober than she currently is before she figures anything out too.
"Somehow, I don't think it'll be that easy. It's basically just the three of us and Nedley -- I don't know what happened to Jeremy and Nicole, if they left town before shit went down or what but the Homestead looked ransacked."
Dean rubs at his forehead with the tips of his fingers because yeah, that's not much better. Because that basically means that it's basically just the four of them, and while Dean has saved the world with less, it's still nice to have numbers on their side sometimes. He moved to drum his fingers against the bar for a moment, before glancing to Castiel again.
"Should we call Sam and tell him to bring Jack?"
Castiel paused for a moment, before shrugging, though there's a stiffness to the movement that belies someone unfamiliar with the gesture. "I don't think it would hurt."
Dean nods. "I'll do that. You may want to help her sober up." Sorry, Wynonna.
Castiel waits until Dean steps away to make the phone call, before holding up two fingers. "I'm told it's great for ... skipping the hangover."
Because she totally had no idea that was a thing. But probably necessary at the moment, even if she is not looking forward to be sober and feeling the weight of everything fully again.
"More like heal it." He presses two fingers to her forehead and the change is sudden, but much gentler than it would have been with a hangover after a hard night's sleep. He gives her a small, sympathetic smile because he knows how nice it is not to be sober, but they need to be sharp of they're going to be dealing with whatever's in the garden.
"I'm sorry about your sister. But if she is a nephilim, then she has considerable defenses. I believe we will be able to find her."
It's a strange sensation to sudden be sober, to have those sharp edges of grief and anger and everything else come back, no longer dulled by the effects of alcohol. She knows they need that sharpness, that she needs to be as aware as possible if she wants to save her sister, but she still doesn't like it.
"I hope so -- and I know Doc will do anything to protect her."
For all the problems she and Doc have had, and still have, she knows he loves Waverly. That much she can trust him with.
"I'm just glad you guys answered my call. Nedley's great -- but he doesn't exactly have a lot of experience with this kinda stuff."
"Yeah, well, all this bullshit has to be good for something."
Dean gives her a bit of a smirk, because he would hope that all of the suffering in his life would be useful to someone else sooner or later. But once that's said, he gives a small shrug in return.
"Let's head up there and do some recon while we're waiting for Sam and Jack."
"I've never been to the Garden. You will have to show us where the stairs are."
Dean nods in agreement, unsure if he'll be able to see them, but it would be a place to start all the same. "After that, we can try and figure out if we want to bait them out or barge in."
For Dean, it is that simple. He knows Heaven well enough to know that nothing is ever a cake walk with them, but that doesn't mean they can't be pushed back one way or another.
"We'll get both her and Doc out, Wynonna. We'll do whatever it takes."
Eventually Cas stops short ahead of them, his eyes scanning something that they can't see. He frowns, before holding up one hand and letting it rest upon the stone stairs as he gathers his thoughts.
"Under normal circumstances, with Juan Carlos and Julian both gone, there should have been angels posted here to take their place. But Heaven is stretched so thin right now, they likely couldn't spare them. It's entirely possible that the garden made due with he closest thing it could find."
Castiel doesn't seem angry or hurt by the assumption that things will end there, but he's hard to read on a good day, so it's hard to say one way or another.
"I may have to speak to Naomi and see if we can spare an angel for this post."
Dean nods as they make their way back, deciding to set up shop in the bar that hopefully has it's electricity - and maybe wifi - still working. Castiel would likely come back with more concrete information, but maybe there were some hints in the lore about the Garden of Eden or Purgatory that could give them more information.
"So I thought that Purgatory was a hell trap. How does the garden come into play?"
"Honestly? I'm not that sure. We know it's what drew Bulshar here to begin with. And I guess it's part of what the curse was protecting by keeping other supernatural beings out of Purgatory."
But there is still a lot they don't know.
"Julian had amnesia for most of the time I knew him and he wasn't around to tell us too much once he got his memory back."
"Huh. So the gun was the key?" Which isn't all that out of the ordinary to Dean. The Colt was a key as well, just to a different kind of lock. Or at least that's based on what Emily remembers of the early seasons of SPN. "That sounds about right."
He turns his head at the sound of the car, and waves when he sees Sam and a happy looking young kid, who eagerly waves at Dean when he sees him in the window. Dean gives him a half smile before waving back.
dean/wynonna; if I only could make a deal with god, I'd get them to swap our places

That's usually the start of everyone's problems.

Which like, being the Guardian sounds cool and all but the part where she can't follow her little sister or even know if she's okay? That part blows.

Which made Waverly getting sucked up there all the more horrible to watch, really. But it's a place to start.
no subject
Because he is an angel after all. It would make sense that he could at least see how to get into a thing angels are supposed to guard.

She doesn't care that Waverly is a half-angel or whatever, she's Wynonna's sister. The Garden can't keep her.

Is Wynonna implying she'd threaten/attack an angel to get her sister back?
Yes.
Yes she is.
No one said she was smart.

"He does that sometimes." Dean just sighs before rubbing his eyes. "C'mon. We should get back to town so Sam doesn't think everyone's dead."

Which is how she ended up sleeping with Waverly's dad -- which is not something she necessarily wants to relive right now.
"True. He might think we went missing like everyone else."
