"There's only one way to find out. You'll have to get on my back to find out."

And luckily, he's much stronger than he looks. Not that he's giving away all his secrets yet but plenty of millionaires work out, right? Nothing suspicious about that

She sighs, before pulling off her heels so that she'll be on more stable footing. She leaves her shoes on the floor, and is grateful she wore one of her less restrictive dresses tonight, so that she can do what's being asked of her.

"Okay. Ready?"

She also works out in a totally unsuspicious way. This is fine.

Bruce shrugs off his jacket and tosses it aside. It'll be easier for her to climb that way. He bends down enough that she can climb onto his back.

"Ready."

This is totally fine. Normal date behavior.

Honestly, this is already a more interesting date than other men she's gone out with in the past. And it's not like Allison isn't already trained for this. She boosts herself up onto his back and as he stands, she reaches up and pushes at the panel, moving it out of the way so she can see into the elevator shaft.

"Sounds quiet."

That could be both a good or bad thing, depending.

"Want me to get a closer look?"

"Yeah, that would be good."

It's honestly more interesting than most of his dates are too. The fact that she's able to climb up on him so easily is impressive. But she was a superhero when she was a kid, so that makes sense.

Her foot finds one of his braced legs, and she uses the leverage to shift one leg up onto his shoulder. Her hand catches the opening of the shaft and she pushes herself up into the elevator shaft, letting her eyes scan around to see what's happening.

"Nothing out here. Seems like all the elevators are stuck between floors."

"Which means we're stuck until it gets fixed." That's frustrating. But there are worse people to be stuck with. He helps her get back down again, carefully landing her on the floor.

"At least we're in good company?"

"There are worse people I could have been stuck in an elevator with," she agrees, before slowly lowering herself back down into the elevator car. As much as they could take some kind of spy game escape, neither of them are in their superhero gear right now.

For the best.

"How long do these scenarios usually hold out for?"

"I'll take that as a compliment." And no, he is not in the right gear for crawling around right now.

"It depends, it is later in the evening so it might take a while."

She nods with a sigh. "So how do the people of Gotham keep themselves occupied when they're stuck in an elevator? Have they come up with fun games?"

"I think most of them are hoping there isn't a criminal behind their stopped elevator. We get a lot of hostage situations." Sorry Allison, he's not up on fun kill the time games.

"That's fair," she admits. She probably is an outlier in not being nervous about being stuck in an elevator. "And I have heard that about Gotham. I wasn't sure if it was upset rich people overexaggerating."

"Some of it is, a lot of it is the poorer people getting stuck in the middle of things." The crime in Gotham doesn't discriminate, it goes after everyone and anyone. No one is safe. And no matter how hard he tries, he can't save everyone.

"That makes sense." Allison shakes her head. "I remember the guys we went after when we were kids having a lot of collateral damage."

"There's always collateral damage, even by the well meaning." He doesn't hate Clark anymore, but he still remembers the wreckage of Metropolis after his fight with Zod.

"Yeah, I can't say we were that well meaning. Our dad didn't really train us that way." He trained them to get the job done, whatever it took. "But the bad guys weren't all that well meaning either, and we did try to hurt them more than other people."

A beat. "And we were also children. We didn't really have a sense of what collateral damage actually meant."

"Children rarely do. They have to be taught, which can be hard." Is he speaking from experience? Maybe a little. He hasn't taken up a Robin since Jason died but he has trained his share of children, even if it was just two. He tried to help when they wanted to fight. Was that the right choice as a father?

Probably not.

"My father unfortunately had no interest in teaching that particular lesson. We had to learn it the hard way as we grew up. But our father wasn't actually a good father." Allison sighs as she leans back against the wall of the elevator. "I'm still trying to figure out if things would have been better or worse for us if he never adopted us."

"It's hard to know what could of been." Would Jason still be alive if Bruce had never adopted him? It's hard to know. There is one thing he does know: "I have the comfort of knowing my life would of been worse if Alfred hadn't taken me in."
